Basic Usage and Facilities
The information such as entering the library and borrowing books are provided here.
The main library has three zones to support the diverse use of the library by users. You can communicate actively in the zone near the entrance and concentrate on studying alone in the zone away from the entrance. And you can also reserve some space for meetings and exhibitions.

We have some special corners to introduce materials to students. Please cooperate in enhancing the collection and encouraging students to use them.

E-Resources
There is a list of E-journals, E-books, and databases. Here you can see the databases contracted by Shimane University as well as the databases provided free of charge.

University ID/Password
You can log in to various services provided by the university, such as MyOPAC and the VPN connection service, with your university ID.

Remote Access
By using the VPN connection service, you can access the campus network from a remote location. This makes it possible to use most of E-resources that are only available within the campus network, even from home, for example. Click here for details.
Elsevier Pay-Per-View Prepaid Transaction Service
You can use transactions pre-purchased by the university to view Elsevier E-journals and E-books that are not currently subscribed to. You need to apply in advance to use it. Click here for details.
Photocopy and Borrowing Books
Photocopy in the Library
Photocopying of library materials is allowed only within the copyright act. Please submit the application form near the copier. If you want to use your budget to copy, please purchase a prepaid card at the co-op shop in advance and use it. Click here for details. (Japanese page)

Borrowing Books from Other Libraries in Shimane Prefecture

Interlibrary Loan/Photocopy Request
You can request for photocopy of an article or borrowing a book from other libraries. You can use your budget to pay. If you would like to allow your students to use your budget to make this request, please apply to create a dedicated ID. Click here for details.

If you visit the libraries of other universities directly, a letter of introduction may be required depending on the library you visit. It takes about a week to prepare a letter of introduction, so please apply with plenty of time.

Seminar
On-demand seminars are held in response to requests for classes. We will help students develop academic information literacy through search training related to classes. Please apply in advance when requesting to hold a seminar.

Purchasing and Managing Materials
If you want to purchase books and periodicals with your budget, please apply to the library. Please note that this is different from purchasing goods.
Purchased books and periodicals can be managed in your office in the form of borrowing from the university. Books are basically registered as university assets, so it is necessary to check the books once a year. In addition, you will need to return materials to the library once you have finished using them.

The books listed in the syllabus are purchased every year, so please write the information about the reference books for your classes on the syllabus. Click here for details.
Institutional Repository
The Institutional Repository of Shimane University is named SWAN, which stores research result in a digital file and disclose on the internet. The Open Access Policy requires faculty members to register research results with SWAN. Inquiries about copyright policies to publishers and academic societies are basically made by the library.

- Articles published on SWAN can be searched in other linked databases such as CiNii Research.
- SWAN works with the University Evaluation Database to help you enter data into the Shimane University Researchers Database System. You can easily list your research results by setting links to your articles registered in SWAN from "Research Activities" page of the system.
